Clare Knox-Bentham who is an artist from Manchester. Clare is interested in the concept of turning drawings into three dimensions using hot melt glue that she ‘draws’ freehand with a Tec 6100 glue gun and then lacquers in bright colours. This process is unique to Clare and she creates exclusive, one-off pieces of work.
Clare also creates jewellery collections which she describes as a series of drawings for the body. The saturated colour and slippery surfaces allude to precious lacquerwork whilst fluid forms blur the line between liquid and solid. As the piece is worn, the wearer’s body heat warms the jewellery and allows it to mould itself to the body’s contours.
When Clare first visited Gluegunsdirect, we where amused with her as she was looking for a glue that wouldn’t stick! She uses a special surface to work on and needed some substantial material that would peel away from the surface. Gluegunsdirect listened and advised (even though we thought she was a bit mad!) and pointed her in the direction of Tecbond 232/43 hot melt adhesive, applied via a Tec 6100 glue gun
Quote from Clare “They’ve been a great company to work with – they’re always interested in what I’m up to and have even sponsored my artwork. I couldn’t have progressed to what I’m doing today without their help. Thank you!”
Clare is exhibiting her works at the Grundy Art Gallery in Blackpool and the New Brewery Arts Centre in Cirencester in April.
