What’s the difference between hot melt and low melt glue sticks?
Hot melt glue sticks are applied at around 195°C and give the strongest bonds on the widest range of materials. Low melt glue sticks are applied at around 130°C, so they’re gentler on heat-sensitive materials like foam, fabric and thin plastics, and reduce the risk of burns.
Which glue sticks are best for schools and classrooms?
Low melt glue sticks are the usual choice for schools, because the lower temperature reduces the risk of burns. Our Tecbond LM41 and Tecbond LM46 low melt sticks are made for exactly this. Low melt glue is still hot, so children should always use glue guns with adult supervision.
Do I need a low melt glue gun to use low melt glue sticks?
Yes. Low melt glue sticks need a low melt glue gun set to the right temperature, such as the Tec 810 low melt. If you want one stick for both types of gun, our multi-temperature clear, coloured and glitter glue sticks work in all Tec 12mm glue guns, hot melt and low melt.
Which hot glue sticks are best for general crafting?
For everyday craft hot glue, Tecbond 132 is an economical clear all-rounder that bonds card, paper, wood, fabric and more. If you want an invisible finish, Tecbond 239 is probably the clearest glue stick available.
Which glue gun should I buy for crafts?
