What’s the best glue stick for packaging and carton sealing?
For most packaging, carton sealing and case-forming work, Tecbond 134 is the most versatile choice: a tan, fast-setting glue stick formulated specifically for paper, card and board, with a minimum of 40% bio-based content. If you need faster set times or economy on higher volumes, Tecbond 14 (high performance) and Tecbond 214 (economical) cover those two ends of the same job.

What’s the difference between Tecbond 14, 134 and 214?
All three are fast-setting adhesives designed for paper, card and board packaging, but they’re tuned differently. Tecbond 134 is the general-purpose choice and doubles as a low-melt grade for heat-sensitive materials. Tecbond 14 is the high-performance option for demanding, high-speed packaging lines. Tecbond 214 is the economical choice, built for high-volume packaging, carton closing and tray erection where cost per unit matters more than performance headroom.

Is hot melt glue strong enough for packaging and carton sealing?
Yes. Hot melt is the standard adhesive choice for carton sealing and case forming across the packaging industry precisely because it sets in seconds and holds reliably under normal handling and transit conditions, without the drying or clamping time a wet adhesive needs. It isn’t designed to be waterproof, so for external or high-moisture applications a different adhesive is more appropriate.

Can hot melt packaging adhesive be used on heat-sensitive materials?
Yes, with the right grade. Tecbond 134 can be run as a low-melt grade, which reduces the risk of scorching or show-through on thinner or more delicate packaging stock. If you’re working with particularly heat-sensitive board, ask about running it at a lower temperature before committing to a full production run.

What size glue stick do I need for packaging, 12mm, 15mm or 43mm?
It depends on your gun and your throughput, not which size is “best.” 12mm is the standard choice for most manual and semi-automated packaging work. 15mm feeds more adhesive per second for larger or higher-volume jobs. 43mm glue slugs are built for bulk, high-output applicators used on production lines. All three Tecbond families here (14, 134, 214) come in each size, so you can match the stick to the gun you’re already running.
