Hybrid vs standard Epoxy Adhesive?

Standard epoxy adhesives are known for their strength of bond, however on a negative they are generally slow setting (cure) which can reduce production. Loctite HY4090 hybrid adhesive delivers the speed of a cyanoacrylate (instant adhesive) and the strength of an epoxy. This powerful combination provides high impact resistance, high strength bonding on a variety of substrates, and high temperature resistance, making it versatile enough to solve a wide range of design and assembly challenges.

Best Loctite Hybrid adhesive for bonding rubber?

There are many different types of rubber, too many to mention. Common rubbers that we are asked to bond are, Latex, Polyurethane, SBR, Butyl, Nitrile and Chloroprene and these don’t include difficult to bond rubbers such as EDPM, Silicone or Natural rubbers. Many rubbers contain mould release agents, slip additives, or other processing lubricants on them, best practice is to remove with a solvent degreaser prior to bonding. Loctite cyanoacrylate (instant adhesive) are generally recommended for rubber bonding, and epoxies adhesives are not! However, Loctite HY4090 Hybrid adhesive has changed this train of thought, now you can have the epoxy bond strength coupled with the speed of a cyanoacrylate adhesive, win-win for the adhesive world and rubber bonding in general. Are Hybrid Adhesives suitable for structural bonding?

Yes, Hybrid adhesive are perfect for structural bonding providing high impact resistance, high strength bonding on a variety of substrates, and high temperature resistance, making it versatile enough to solve a wide range of design and assembly challenges.

Will Hybrid Adhesives bonding polypropylene (PP)?

Although Hybrid sealant will bond a range of plastics, they are not suitable for low energy surfaces such as polypropylene or polyethylene. We strongly recommend Loctite AA 3038 for PP bonding.

What’s the difference Loctite HY 4060GY vs Loctite HY 4090?

A: Both are hybrid combinations of cyanoacrylate (instant adhesive) delivers speed and epoxy adhesive which delivers strength. However, Loctite HY 4060GY is supplied as a ready to use product and can be dispensed directly from the pack without additional applicators.

What’s the difference between Epoxy Hybrid vs Acrylic Hybrid?

Loctite HY 4080 is a combination hybrid adhesive cyanoacrylate (instant adhesive) and acrylic adhesive and Loctite HY 4090 combination hybrid adhesive cyanoacrylate (instant adhesive) and epoxy adhesive. The main difference is an epoxy adhesive will always be stronger final bond than acrylic.
