🏗️ THE CHALLENGE: SIMPLIFYING FLOORING INSTALLATION
A large manufacturer of pre-cast concrete beams used in block and beam flooring wanted to improve the installation process.
Traditionally, expanding foam is applied between the beams to provide thermal insulation and an acoustic barrier.
Could polyethylene foam be bonded directly to the side of the beam instead, simplifying the process and saving time?
The challenge? Bonding foam along concrete beams measuring 5–10 metres, with a fast-setting adhesive.
🛠️ THE SOLUTION: ADHESIVE EXPERTISE IN ACTION
We visited the customer with a Tec 6300 Spray gun from Power Adhesives and Tecbond 420-43 sprayable hot melt adhesive.
The adhesive was applied directly to the foam using a carefully controlled spray pattern:
▪️ A tighter pattern around the edges.
▪️ A wider spray pattern through the centre.
The foam was positioned against the concrete beam and pressed into place by hand.
⏱️ Five minutes later, we returned to check the bond.
The result?
Full fibre tear along the entire length of the foam.
The customer retained the equipment and adhesive for further testing. After successfully completing their own trials, they placed an order for the Tec6300 spray gun and Tecbond 420-43 adhesive.
